Ian is an all rounder with extensive BBC local radio experience.
As a commentator, presenter, producer or reporter, he is equally at home covering a range of sports, including cricket, football and rugby union.
He was the main voice of sport at BBC Radio Gloucestershire until turning to a freelance career in April 2013.
Ian began his BBC career working weekends after several years as a Hospital Radio volunteer. He made the move to full time staff in 1995 after 11 years working in agriculture.
He has experience of covering major events such as Play Off finals, the Cheltenham National Hunt Festival, open top bus tours and the RAC Rally (now Wales Rally GB).
In his time as a freelance Ian has commentated for more than a dozen BBC local radio stations, and has been a regular voice for several seasons covering the Championship rugby team the Jersey Reds in the UK.
Ian played cricket at school and at club level until joining the BBC full time, and in 2015 became PA announcer for Gloucestershire’s home Championship matches, as well as writing reports for the club website. Under the Covid pandemic, he moved to lead the club’s live stream commentary service.
He is a supporter of several animal charities and has no children.
